How ICON reviews photographers.

ICON is built around trust: clients need someone reliable, photographers need clear expectations, and the marketplace needs a quality bar that is earned rather than claimed.

Entry review

Every applicant is reviewed by a person.

Applicants verify their email, submit basic identity details, and share portfolio links that show real-world shooting range. ICON does not ask applicants to upload driver's licenses in this phase.

Our team reviews the portfolio, checks that the contact information is believable, and decides whether the applicant should start as Rising, start as provisional Signature, be asked for more examples, or be declined.

  • Low light Interiors, twilight, or night scenes without relying on flash.
  • Harsh sun Bright outdoor light, contrast, and exposure control.
  • Motion People or moments in movement, with usable focus and timing.
  • Candid portrait Real people in natural environments, not studio-only work.
  • Environmental scene A subject with context, story, and a sense of place.
Tiers

Rising, Signature, and Elite each mean something.

Tier How it is earned What it signals
Rising Approved by human review, or still building a verified ICON track record. A capable photographer who can start accepting ICON jobs.
Signature Strong application review or promotion through completed sessions, ratings, and reliability. A proven photographer clients can book with higher confidence.
Elite Earned only after meaningful ICON volume, excellent ratings, and a clean issue history. No photographer joins ICON as Elite. Top marketplace trust and performance.

Data and privacy

We keep the process practical.

Portfolio photos are reviewed so we can understand skill, consistency, and fit for on-demand work. Declined application photos are eligible for deletion after 90 days. Approved ICONs may keep portfolio material associated with their account.

Payout identity, tax details, and bank information are handled through Stripe Connect. ICON does not store applicants' bank credentials. If a future phase adds formal identity verification, we will update this page before that flow goes live.

Promotion and demotion

Performance after launch matters too.

Application review sets an entry point. After that, ICON looks at completed sessions, client ratings, completion rate, responsiveness, repeat customers, and substantiated reports. Promotions are reviewed by a manager before they take effect.

Serious safety, fraud, no-show, or quality issues can lead to review, restriction, demotion, or suspension. We would rather grow carefully than let unclear standards damage trust on either side of the marketplace.
